Rowan Pebble Island

Rowan Pebble Island

The Orry Mill is introducing the latest yarn from Rowan - a fully traceable pure wool from farm to store.

Pebble Island in the Falklands Archipelago is run by Alex & Dot Gould, the island has been a sheep farm since 1846, and produces some of the finest wool in the world, with a 21.5 micron.

The farms 6000 sheep have access to the beaches, where they can graze on kelp, which is proven to reduce methane emissions.

The sheep are all blade-sheared by hand, which is slower and quieter than mechanical shearing, this highly skilled technique is not only kinder to the sheep, but also produces better wool yields.

The yarn is spun in Yorkshire by a fourth generation worsted spinning mill and dyed in a palette of 10 colours inspired by the natural agate stones and indigenous flora and fauna of Pebble Island.

Rowan is launching the yarn with a collection of textural garments and accessory designs by Erika Knight. Big shapes with soft structure, patched and layered for protection from the elements with crafty embroidered details.
