The Orry Mill in Eaglesham, just south of Glasgow, is one of the few independent yarn shops in Scotland stocking Lang Yarns. We carry a curated selection of their range — including Cashmere Premium, Vaya, Fiesta and Move Wool Addicts — both in our physical shop and online with free UK delivery on orders over £35. Lang Yarns is not widely available through UK high street or online retailers, so The Orry Mill is a practical starting point for UK-based knitters looking for the brand.

Lang Yarns Vaya is a DK chainette yarn blending 74% cotton, 16% extrafine merino wool and 10% yak. The cotton contributes cool drape and breathability; the merino adds softness and a little stretch; the yak brings gentle warmth and a subtle lustre. The result is a yarn well suited to transitional garments — lightweight jumpers, shawls and layering pieces that work across seasons. At 200m per 50g ball it offers generous meterage. Lang Yarns recommend alternating between two balls every couple of rows when working on larger pieces to ensure even colour distribution.

Yes — Cashmere Premium is 100% pure cashmere, not a cashmere blend. It is spun to a DK weight and sold in 25g balls of 115m at £17.50 per ball. Pure cashmere at DK weight from a heritage European brand at that price point represents reasonable value for the fibre — though as with all cashmere, quantities required for larger garments add up, and it is best reserved for accessories, smaller garments, or projects where the material itself is the focus. It requires hand washing with a wool-specific detergent and should not be machine washed.

Move Wool Addicts is a 4ply sock yarn from Lang Yarns' premium Wooladdicts line, blending 75% virgin merino with 25% nylon for durability. Each 100g ball contains 420m. The self-patterning effect is built into the yarn during dyeing — the colour sequence is arranged so that as you knit, stripes and colour transitions appear automatically in the finished fabric without the need to switch yarns or carry colours. The pattern created will vary slightly depending on needle size, tension and stitch count, but the general effect is consistent within each colourway.

Lang Yarns was established as a hand knitting yarn brand in the 1920s, though the family business behind it dates to 1860, when Theodor Lang founded a cotton spinning mill in Reiden, Switzerland. The company is now in its sixth generation of family ownership. Today it operates as one of the leading hand knitting yarn brands in the world, producing yarn across a wide range of fibres from its base in Switzerland. The brand is sold across Europe, North America, Japan and beyond, and is now available in Scotland through The Orry Mill in Eaglesham, Glasgow.
