Lang Yarns
About Lang Yarns
Lang Yarns traces its roots to 1860, when Theodor Lang acquired a water mill in Reiden, in the Swiss canton of Lucerne, and established the first spinning operation in the Wiggertal region. The business has remained in the Lang family through six generations, growing from a local cotton spinning mill into one of the most respected hand knitting yarn brands in the world. The brand name was formally established in the 1920s when Erich Lang, faced with the pressures of the Great Depression, began selling hand knitting yarns under the Lang Yarns label — a move that set the company's direction for the following century.
Today Lang Yarns is a global brand, sold across Europe, North America, Japan and beyond, with a range spanning animal fibres, plant fibres, luxury blends and specialist sock yarns. Their Wooladdicts sub-brand sits at the premium end of the range. The emphasis throughout is on quality of raw material, precision of construction, and relevance to what contemporary knitters actually want to make.
What We Stock at The Orry Mill
We have selected four Lang Yarns bases that each bring something distinct to the range — from pure luxury to summer-ready cotton to hardwearing sock yarn.
Lang Yarns Cashmere Premium is 100% pure cashmere, spun to a DK weight in 25g balls of 115m. Five colourways are currently available, from neutrals to richer tones. At £17.50 per ball it represents exceptional value for genuine cashmere at DK weight — suitable for heirloom accessories, next-to-skin garments, and pieces where only the finest fibre will do. Hand wash only; use a wool-specific detergent.
Lang Yarns Vaya is a chainette DK blending 74% cotton, 16% extrafine merino and 10% yak — a genuinely unusual combination that produces an airy, lightly heathered fabric with cool drape from the cotton and just enough warmth from the merino and yak to make it a year-round option. At 200m per 50g ball it offers excellent meterage for the price. Available in eight colourways from soft neutrals to bolder tones. Recommended needle size 3.5–4mm; tension 24 sts per 10cm.
Lang Yarns Fiesta is a DK cotton blend with a distinctive construction — a soft white cotton core wrapped with a multicoloured nylon thread that varies in thickness along the strand, creating a lively textured effect. The 88% cotton / 12% nylon blend is lightweight, breathable and best suited to spring and summer garments and accessories. Three colourways currently in stock at £8.25 per 50g/140m ball. Works equally well for crochet.
Lang Yarns Move Wool Addicts is a self-patterning 4ply sock yarn blending 75% virgin merino with 25% nylon for durability. Each 100g ball contains 420m — enough for a standard pair of adult socks — and the colour transitions create striking stripes and patterns as you knit without any additional effort. Eight colourways are currently available, all in the Wooladdicts palette. Recommended needle size 2.5–3mm; tension 30 sts per 10cm.
