The Cassilis Baby Cardigan is an easy, confidence‑building knitting pattern designed by Tilde Olsen specifically for Orry Yarn Merino DK — our soft, springy, ethically produced merino wool with beautiful stitch definition and a smooth, gentle feel, perfect for little ones.
This textured cardigan is worked top‑down, beginning with the back panel in the Cassilis stitch pattern. Stitches are then picked up from each shoulder to work the left and right fronts, which continue in the same textured pattern and include simple buttonhole shaping.
The sleeves are picked up and knitted downwards in soft garter stitch for a cosy finish. All edges are cast off using the Icelandic bind‑off for a clean, stretchy finish. Finally, the cardigan is seamed at the sides and a neat collar is added.
By this stage of your knitting journey, you should feel confident with casting on, working knit and purl stitches, and following straightforward pattern instructions.
