Every hank carries a QR code that traces the wool in your hands back to the farm it came from, and the scheme guarantees fair payment to the sheep farmers and welfare standards for their flocks. The DK is worsted spun from 100% British Romney, one of the oldest and hardiest of the British longwools, and it behaves exactly as that suggests: crisp, resilient and hard-wearing, with a long staple that gives real clarity to a stitch.
This is a working wool rather than a next-to-skin luxury, and that is the point of it. Romney has spring and body, so cables stand proud, colourwork lies flat and a garment holds its shape through years of wearing rather than growing tired after a season. Wooltrace DK is the workhorse of the Bramble & Fleece pattern collection - nine of their own designs are written for it, from the beginner Sloe Snood and Malton Sweater to the colourwork Bramble Hat and the cabled Thistle Slipover. The twelve shades are solid rather than heathered, which suits the character of the fibre: colours read clean and saturated, from Ecru and Silver Skies through Dried Lime and Sunset to Claret, Violet Blue and Perfect Navy. It is a palette built for contrast, so stranded and Fair Isle motifs stay crisp.
