The Sophie Scarf is worked back and forth in one piece, from tip to tip in garter stitch with built-in i-cord edges. The smaller size Sophie Scarf reaches around the neck once, while the larger size can wrap around the neck twice.
We love this scarf so much that we have put a kit together in a variety of popular yarn choices that we know will look great.
WYS Pure DK - 2 x 50g (224m) - is a truly irresistible yarn made from 100% Falkland Island Wool it has a beautifully soft, smooth finish and a plush cosy feel which makes some of the cosiest scarves.
Rowan Alpaca Classic: 2 x 25g (240m) - This yarn creates an effortlessly light and airy Sophie Scarf with a beautiful soft halo. Its unique cotton‑mesh construction gently holds superfine alpaca fibres, giving you impressive warmth without weight and exceptional yardage for such a delicate feel. The finished scarf drapes elegantly, with a subtle fuzziness that adds depth and sophistication—perfect if you love a cosy yet feather‑light accessory.
Rowan Fine Tweed Haze: 1 x 50g (215m) This lightweight, modern tweed yarn brings a soft halo and delicate flecks that create beautiful depth in the finished Sophie Scarf. With a luxurious blend of superfine alpaca and extra‑fine merino, Fine Tweed Haze delivers warmth, gentle fuzziness and a contemporary speckled look—all in a finer, more versatile form. Rowan Cotton Wool: 1 x 50g (130m) - a lovely lightweight blend of 60% Organic Cotton, 40% Organic Wool - Grown organically without harmful chemicals or pesticides this yarn is naturally soft, breathable and hypoallergenic so ideal for sensitive skin or for a spring summer version of Sophie Scarf.
Rowan Kid Classic - 1 x 50g (140m) - a beautiful blend of 70% lambswool, 22% kid mohair and 8% polyamide creates a lovely, soft yarn and is our personal favourite for the Sophie Scarf giving fabulous results. An aran weight wool yarn, with a super-light feel. As this is a slightly thicker yarn you may want to opt for 4mm or 4.5mm needles, still having enough yarn to complete for a slightly larger scarf.
