Sandnes Garn Yarns
Sandnes Garn Yarn — The Full Collection
Sandnes Garn has been producing hand knitting yarn in Sandnes, Norway since 1888, and today stands as Northern Europe's largest hand knitting yarn manufacturer. Their ranges span Norwegian wool classics, fine merino, luxurious mohair blends and versatile alpaca — all produced with a focus on animal welfare, sustainability and the kind of consistent quality that makes them a reliable choice for garment knitting.
At The Orry Mill, we stock a curated selection of Sandnes Garn's most popular yarn bases. Whether you're working from a PetiteKnit pattern calling for Sunday, looking for a hardwearing DK for a child's sweater, or hunting for the right mohair to hold alongside a fine merino — you'll find it here.
What's in the Range
Peer Gynt — 100% Norwegian wool, DK weight, in production since 1938. The go-to yarn for traditional kofte sweaters and hardwearing everyday knits. Naturally pill-resistant and durable, it softens with wear and washing.
Tynn Peer Gynt — the same 100% Norwegian wool fibre as Peer Gynt, spun finer as a 3-ply fingering weight yarn. Ideal for lightweight garments, colourwork and accessories where you want that characteristic Norwegian wool texture at a smaller gauge.
Tynn Silk Mohair — a laceweight blend of mohair, silk and wool that adds halo and warmth when held alongside a fingering weight yarn such as Sunday. A defining component of the modern Scandinavian aesthetic, it pairs naturally with PetiteKnit and similar designer patterns.
PetiteKnit Double Sunday — the DK weight expression of Sandnes Garn's Sunday merino, developed in collaboration with the Danish knitwear designer PetiteKnit. Soft, non-superwash, mulesing-free 100% merino with outstanding stitch definition for cables, colourwork and textured stitches.
Kos — a blend of 62% alpaca, 29% nylon and 9% wool, producing a softly hazy, lightweight yarn with excellent warmth. The nylon content adds durability to what would otherwise be a delicate fibre, making it a practical choice for garments and accessories.
